Welcome to 2015 Season

Hi everyone, and welcome back to Kings Cliffe Flyers.

We wish you all an enjoyable, safe and successful cycling season whatever you get up to.

We are in the process of updating and improving our website after a period of inactivity.  You can also find us on facebook, so if you have not already joined the group we encourage you to network with local like-minded cyclists – it’s a great way to find a local group ride or a training partner.

We have just started our club time trial season as of Tuesday 14th April, so if you want to have a go you’ll find an updated Club TT calendar under the Time Trials page.  These are friendly, informal events and your race fee includes a free cuppa and cake!

*CLUB CLOTHING SPRING ORDERS*

2013 Spring Ordering for Club Cycling Kit

Hi to all 2012 & welcome to new 2013 members,

I hope you are looking forward to a great year of cycling, from training and racing to riding for fun. As it has been over a year since we have placed an adult clothing order, please find attached an order form and some information on the Giordana kit. eg. the bib shorts are really comfy and come in either mens’ fit or womens’ fit chammy. Please note photos are not in club colours – club kit is mainly orange with white/blue for the tops and mainly royal blue for the shorts.with white side panel with Flyers text (club website has some photos which show the actual design of club kit).

If you would like to order some kit, just let me know what you want, ideally email or post form back to me by Sunday 10th March.

If there is sufficent demand I will place a club order and confirm back to you what has been ordered (min. order quantities are 10 per garment type).

You don’t need to pay until Sunday 21st April.

At the moment the lead time is about 6 weeks for delivery, so your order should be available by end April / first week in May latest. This will mean your new kit is ready for the peak road, track and time-trialling season.

If you have any queries just get in touch, either by email or ring my mobile (details on the order form).

If you have a request for kids tops we do have a few in stock, just let me know.

We also have a few black club hoodies (£16 / £20) and bright orange club T-shirts (£8 / £10) available, just let me know if you are interested and I’ll be in touch.

Reminder – if you haven’t already done so please renew your membership for 2013

kind regards and happy cycling,

Kings Cliffe Flyers Youth Team at Tour of Britain – Sunday 9-Sep

This weekend sees the start of the prestigious Tour of Britain with stage one departing from Ipswich & finishing in Norwich.  Many of the pros, including Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Ivan Basso, Tyler Farrar,  Jack Bobridge & Samuel Sanchez, are now using this event as preparation for the World Championships. However, the highlight of the day will actually be just prior to the arrival of the pros when youth teams from the Region’s Go-Ride clubs take part in racing along the finishing straight in front of the crowds, V.I.P.s and commentary boxes.

The Kings Cliffe Flyers youth team, consisting of Meg Snow, Oliver Fraser, Thomas Stegman & Jerry Norman, have practised hard this week perfecting fast starts, tight turns whilst maintaining a tight formation to complete the Italian Pursuit with each timed attempt getting slightly faster.  They will only get one opportunity on the day to make it through to the medal ride offs so if you’re going to watch the event make sure you bang on the boards encouraging them to a win.

Apart from the Flyers, Wiggins & Cavendish look out local lad & GB’s rider number 165, Alistair Slater, who is a former Go-Ride participant of Bourne Wheelers.

 You can watch the T.o.B. on ITV 4 –  Live – 13:45hrs ; Highlights – 20:00hrs

Record Broken, Volunteers, Do you have…?, Go-Ride Racing

Go-Ride Racing

Kings Cliffe Flyers cycling club hosted round 3 of their summer Go-Ride Racing series on Thursday which produced some thrilling races. Each race had three different age/ability groups ensuring that everyone had the chance to be competitive with girls & boys aged 8yrs-16yrs.

All the events in this round were track type races all run on grass rather than a velodrome. Shrieks, oohs & aahs from parents and riders alike came when the paced elimination race was handicapped to make the older & more proficient riders work harder whilst the other riders were immediately thrown into the thick of the action at the front of the race. Each lap the last few to cross the line were eliminated leaving the final sprint with George Baker (Ketton) battling it out for the final spot against Jerry Norman (Wansford). Baker took the race win & clinched first place overall for round 3. Thomas Spain (Apethorpe) maintains his position on the leader board with Poppy Wells (Nassington) in 7th place overall & leading girl.

Practice sessions for Round 4 which will be a Tour de France style event with a prologue, a ‘mountain stage’ and a circuit race with tight corners continue to run on Thursday evenings. All practice sessions & races take place in the grounds of Kings Cliffe Middle School, PE8 6XS. Start 6.30pm-7.30pm. Bring your own bike & helmet. Practice Sessions £3.00 – Race Night £2.00. Round 4 takes place on 28 July. Contact: Alison Lilley 07983 809120 or see www.kingscliffeflyers.org.uk

Record Breaking Ride

Breaking news… Kristian Woolf set a new club & course record for the Club’s 10 mile time trial on Tuesday evening. Exact time not known but it was a short 22mins ride. WELL DONE!

National G.H.S. 10 Mile Individual Time Trial Championship District Qualifying

Can you spare 1hr this Saturday afternoon to help out?

George Baker will be competing in more serious competition this Saturday when Kings Cliffe Flyers host a Regional qualifying round of the National G.H.S. 10 Mile Individual Time Trial Championship around the lanes of Nassington, Woodnewton & Fotheringhay. Charles Cunliffe (Peterborough) joins him as the Flyers other youth representative hoping to qualify for a place in the National Final later in the year. The event is combined with a round of the Northants & District Cycling Association Time Trial series which will see a total of 74 riders aged 13-75yrs competing in this event. Other local clubs represented are Fenland Clarion, St Ives CC, Peterborough CC, Kettering CC & Welland Valley CC. Race starts 2pm. For more details contact Ghislaine McVitty 07774 2331060.

Tesco Vouchers – THANK YOU To everyone who donated Tesco School & Club Vouchers to Kings Cliffe Flyers. We collected a record number of vouchers this year which we were able to add to last year’s ‘banking’. This enabled us to ‘buy’ some additional coaching resources & bank the surplus vouchers for next year.

Volunteers

A belated welcome to our new volunteers Paige Limbrick & Graham Story. Both are helping out at the youth coaching sessions on Thursday evenings. Paige is using the experience as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award. Graham is a local school Governor interested in cycling & keen to become a coach. Volunteers are also needed to help run the weekly time trial on Tuesday evenings (Apr-Aug). If you can spare an hour or so to help out generally either on a regular or ad hoc basis or fancy becoming a time keeper contact Ghislaine McVitty 07774 2331060.
