CLUB HISTORY

 January 2009

A new cycling club has been formed in Kings Cliffe, East Northants and will be known as Kings Cliffe Flyers. The Club’s name was chosen to represent two local aspects; firstly the USAF/RAF association with the village during WWll. – and secondly the Red Kites which regularly fly over the village. The club will be based at the community sports project site currently being developed in Kings Cliffe.

Kings Cliffe Flyers will be open to all but its main focus will be on Youth Development. There is already a strong volunteer coaching team in place with Mark McVitty who is South Northants Community Cycling Coach, Alison Lilley – British Cycling’s Eastern Region Go-Ride Coach & James Butcher who is a trainee coach & a member of Peterborough Athletic & Triathlon Club (PACTRAC). The club has already registered with British Cycling to become a Go-Ride club, which means they are working towards achieving Clubmark accreditation, the Nationally recognised quality assurance standard for community clubs.

To help with start up costs a charitable donation was made to the club by Kings Cliffe Football Club president Jim Wyles to one of the club’s volunteer coaches Alison Lilley.

For Spring/Summer this year there will be coaching & racing activities available. Coaching sessions will be held initially at Kings Cliffe Community Centre Monday evenings for 10-16yrs. See link opposite listed under ‘Pages’ . For older youth riders & adults wanting race or simply wish to challenge their fitness against the clock there will be a 10 mile individual time trial held fortnightly on Tuesday evenings. See link opposite listed under ‘Pages’

If you have some spare time & skills that may help develop Flyers ready for the season ahead especially in graphic or website design or are interested in the different volunteering opportunities available once the season is underway such as coaching assistants, time keepers, record keeper, administrator, press officer, event marshals, etc. please contact Mark McVitty on 01780 470083  or 07834 264948   or e-mail MMcV@aol.com .  Please note that you may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check for some roles.

Keep checking back for updates.  🙂
