The last night of the year for the Flyers youth was dark, cold & of course the light rain & sleet started just as we did. Apart from the normal dazzling bike lights they were adorned with tinsel, baubles, bells & singing Santas. Best bike of the night was Jack Shuttleworth’s Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer bike complete with flash red nose.
Despite the bitter cold a couple of the Fledgling Flyers joined in some quick games of ‘Follow the Reindeer’ , ‘The Reindeer Says ..ride slowly, ride fast’, a handicap race and an elimination race. All this before we sought shelter & warmth in the community room at Kings Cliffe Active.
Hot chocolate drinks were a welcome relief as the riders settled in for a cycling quiz. General knowledge & technical questions such as ‘To maintain your speed which ‘step’ would you use prior to going up a steep bank? were answered correctly demonstrating the depth of knowledge of our young riders.
We’d finished the quiz. At last came the cry because it was feast time with those tempting sausages, cheesy puffs & hot mini quiches soon disappearing.
Secret Santa, aka Simon Brown in his red shirt but now without his Movember beard, distributed the presents.
A lot of mess, a photo shoot, a tidy up & everyone was happy.
Have Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
