WOW! Glorious sunshine & fantastic racing in Round 3 of the 2012 Go-Ride Racing Series.
Four new riders to the series made up the seventeen eager youngsters hoping to make their mark as future racing cyclists.
Grass track racing was this week’s theme with riders competiting in age & ability races including a 3 or 4 lap scratch race, handicap, one lap time trial, Devil-take-the-Hindmost and Team Sprint (Italian Pursuit).
Respendent in his Team SKY racing jersey Edward Lowe (unattached) opened up proceedings with a comfortable win in the 3 lap scratch race. In the next category up Thomas Spain (KCF) repeated his success of winning the opening event by winning the 4 lap scratch. The handicap events were exciting with Harry Tilley (KCF) & Edward making up ground rapidly from back of the pack to place first & second. Unfortunately Harry’s course cutting on the inside of the circuit saw him duly relegated to last place & subsequently he missed out on 3 vital points. Long marker Meg Snow (KCF) rode her socks off in the 4 lap h/cap holding off preying the beasts behind her until 3/4 lap ramained when they swarmed by 5 or so abreast with Jerry Norman (KCF) clinching the win. For the first time tactics came into play in older category’s Devil-take-the-Hindmost (elimination) event. With just one rider per lap being eliminated it would be a long & brutal event just to blast away at the start like the younger category had done so thinking caps were on. Great observation, holding the inside line & being ready to accelerate & respond to other rider’s attacks were the key factors to succeeding. Iuean held the front position throughout only to be overhauled in the back straight by Jerry who just managed to hold him off to the finish line.
Winning four races in a row Edward Lowe won not only his age group races but the overall win with 20points. 2nd – Jerry Norman 14points. 3rd – Thomas Spain (12 points).
