Round two of Kings Cliffe Flyers Go-Ride Racing Series went ahead despite the gusting winds and sudden downpours of rain on Thursday evening. The coaches made some quick changes to the course orientation and to individual race formats to facilitate the racing in the wet conditions. The hardy youngsters lined up to complete a variety of grass track style races and fun events. They competed in several Keirin races which involved one of the coaches acting as Derny pacer but on his mountain bike rather than the traditional motor cycle.
Newcomer 9yrs old Issac Ellard (Orton Wistow, Peterborough) showed well beating older riders in a couple of races & almost caught the Flyer’s 13yr old George Baker (Ketton) on the line in another event. Parents and older teenagers sat sheltered under the Ark in Oundle’s minibus awning watching the races enjoying coffee & hot chocolate provided by the charity. A break in the middle of the races enabled the riders to get a hot drink too. In the end it was a 1-2-3- for Kings Cliffe Flyers this week with Cody McVitty (Kings Cliffe) taking the win from Thomas Spain (Apethorpe) & George Baker. Spain leads the series with 15 points, Mcvitty 13 points & William Riddington (Yarwell) with 5 points.
Practice nights are every Thursday 6.30pm-7.30pm (excl. half-term) with the next Go-Ride Races on Thursday 30th June at Oundle & Kings Cliffe Middle School, Kings Cliife, PE8 6XS.
